Everything you need to know before, during, and after your thermography scan — so you can arrive prepared and leave confident.
Thermography measures your body's natural heat patterns. Anything that artificially raises or blocks your skin temperature — exercise, lotions, sun exposure — can affect your results. Following these guidelines ensures the most accurate reading possible from your Meditherm IRIS 640 imaging system.

What you should DO to prepare:
Important — please inform us if: You have had a mammogram, biopsy, needle aspiration, or any breast surgery within the last 30 days. You are currently breastfeeding. You have any recent skin lesions (inflammation can cause a false positive). If any of these apply, please wait 90 days before scheduling a breast thermogram or contact us to discuss your situation.
Your scan is performed using the Meditherm IRIS 640 — the highest-grade medical thermal imaging camera on the market. With a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and temperature sensitivity of 0.01°C, it captures subtle heat and vascular changes with clinical precision. Every pixel is an individually referenced measurement — ensuring the most accurate results possible.
Immediately after your scan, your thermal images are sent via our secure HIPAA-compliant system to our panel of board-certified thermologists at EMI (Electronic Medical Interpretation) — the world's largest and most advanced network of interpreting physicians, with over 30 M.D.'s on staff.
Your thermogram report is prepared by Medical Doctors who are Board Certified in Thermology. The report contains your scan images, corresponding risk level ratings, and a detailed interpretation of the findings. Reports are color-coded and designed to be easy to understand. A 24-hour rush option is available for an additional fee.
We email your complete report and images to you via encrypted email — and to any healthcare providers you designate — at no extra cost. Printed copies are available on request. All image data is backed up daily and retrievable anywhere in the world through the Meditherm network.
Read through your color-coded report carefully. If you have questions about your results, contact us at hello@insightthermal.com — we're here to help you understand what your images mean and what your next steps might be.
Share your thermogram report with your primary care physician or a specialist. They can interpret the findings in the context of your overall health history and recommend any further testing — such as a mammogram, ultrasound, MRI, or biopsy — if needed.
Thermography is a tool for risk assessment and monitoring — not a standalone diagnostic test. It should always be used alongside physician-recommended screening methods for comprehensive health monitoring.
The most powerful result thermography can produce is change over time. A single scan tells us your thermal pattern at one moment — but we have no way of knowing if that is your normal or if it is already changing. Only by comparing two scans taken 90 days apart can we establish a stable, accurate baseline — your unique thermal fingerprint.
The 90-day interval is important. Less than 3 months may miss significant change. More than 3 months may allow change to have already taken place undetected. Please schedule your follow-up scan as close to 90 days after your initial scan as possible.
After your baseline is established, annual thermography is recommended for most patients. Those with a history of breast cancer or high risk factors may benefit from more frequent monitoring — discuss with your healthcare provider.
